The P712m Smart Array solution fulfills all the RAID requirements for the BL280c G6 solutions by allowing the customer the flexibility of purchasing one solution that can perform as an entry-level RAID controller as well as upgrade capability to high end RAID solution with the addition of more cache and/or BBWC module.

Q1. WHat is the HP Smart Array P712m?
A1. The HP Smart Array P712m is a mezzanine card Smart Array solution for internal and external connectivity for blades systems. The Smart Array supports SAS 3.0 Gb (6.0 Capable), and SATA 3.0, RAID 0, RAID 0+1, The card will allow connection of 1 -2 internal hard drives on the BL260c G6
 
Q2. What are the benefit to customers?
A2.

Meets the need for high storage bandwidth (200MB/s today) in an ultra-dense compute configuration for customers who want multiple drives per server.

  • Due to density and size of server farms, power efficiency is a concern along with management complexity resulting from many server instances.
 
Q3. What can they do now that they couldn’t before this was available?
A3. Support 2 internal SAS drives in the BL280c G6.
