What is the difference between AMS and AMU?

AMS is a suite of applications for managing ES47/GS80/GS1280 Alpha server platforms. The benefits of using AMS are:

  • Centralized access to all managed platforms
  • At a glance view of platform status and partition states
  • Authenticated and authorized access
  • Single Sign On access to AMU
  • Console output logging
  • Console output monitoring
  • A utility for remote low bandwidth connections (PCM)
  • Access to management applications running on a partition's OS

AMU is a dedicated management utility for the ES47/GS80/GS1280 Alphaserver platforms. The AMS features listed above are not supported by AMU when it is installed and run as a stand alone application. Back to Top

I have installed AMS. Do I also need to install AMU?

AMU is a component of AMS and it is included in the AMS installation kit.

Can I Access AMU directly when AMU is installed as a component of AMS?

In the AMS application environment, AMU can only be accessed through SPM.

Will AMU display wrong information about cable connections, system drawer contents, firmware versions, environmental reading, etc., if the physical view display does not match my cabinet configuration?

The physical view display has no effect on component configuration data displayed in different windows. Management functions will be carried on successfully even if the physical display does not accurately describe a cabinet's configuration.

I have installed AMU stand-alone. When I access the AMU client, the Platform combo box is empty. What do I have to do to add my platforms?

You need to invoke the Visual Editor from AMU's file menu and configure your platforms as explained in the Visual Editor's help.
